28/5/2012 ‘African Latitudes’ tracklist

Only ten tracks to list from a sonic trip from the south of Africa to the north and back again, but they include some of the most infectious gems I’ve played on the show; the sounds are still dancing in my head two days after broadcasting them. Otachipokpo….pokpo….pokpo….
The listing below will also reveal the great work of compilers of the compilations the majority of the tracks are taken from – Samy Ben Redjeb at Analog Africa, Miles Cleret at Soundway, Duncan Brooker and Francis Gooding at Strut; their devotion to unearthing rare grooves from the 60’s and 70’s make my life so much easier and enjoyable!

The ten sonic nuggets:

South Africa, Angola, DR Congo, Benin, Togo, Mali, Morocco, Ethiopia, Nigeria, and back to South Africa again for an excerpt (actually about half of the almost 16 minutes) of the wonderful track by jazz combo Batsumi. Hopefully the quite diverse sounds provided a good taste of the continent, and the links provided will be sufficient for those hungry for more information……
Wish anyone perusing this many a sonic delight. Til next time, S.

Any comments welcome!
