13/5/2013 ‘NY21’ tracklist

During the course of a 60-minute focus on 21st century sounds from New York City, it became apparent that it could easily have been narrowed to dwell only on artists resident in the borough of Brooklyn. Is there something in the air there, or perhaps it’s lower rents which attract so many musicians? With a population in excess of two and a half million, it’s no surprise that there are many with a musical bent, so perhaps it was just a coincidence that so many of the following artists reside, or used to reside, in BK!

That track by an act who left New Orleans and, via Providence RI, eventually wound up attracted by Brooklyn’s sonic magnet, took us out into the night. Thanks due to Mike Mare for the Destructo Swarmbots track – their performance with the mighty Dalek at Brno club Fleda one of the highlights of 2008 gigwise…..
Any comments regarding the reasons for the wealth of artists in Brooklyn very welcome – was it just chance that my selection of tracks included so many residents of that borough?

Til next time, wish you all many a sonic delight – S.
