19/8/2013 ’13SONGS’ tracklist

Fugazi’s 1990 album, collecting their first two EPs, provided the inspiration and title for this week’s focus on The Kitchen Sink. Due to time constraints, the titular baker’s dozen was cropped to twelve, Tim Buckley‘s Song to the Siren, and Robert Wyatt‘s Sea Song, both of which have previously featured on the show, being amongst those put back on the shelves.
Finally, on a stormy evening when, due to a previous occupant of the studio having neglected to close a window, a large section of carpet beneath a sill was sodden with rain (but thankfully all required technology remaining dry), the following dozen delights were broadcast. I’d like to be able to truthfully write, ‘to thunderous acclaim’, but the storm was swift in it’s sweep to the southeast, not the slightest distant grumble detectable from the studio….

That wonderfully moody arrangement of the Kurt Weill composition, recorded by Gil Evans Orchestra in 1964, brought another show to an end. Thanks this time are due to Andrea Rottin and Genevieve Pasquier.
Until next time, wishing you many a beautiful sonic experience, S.
