Dystopian Nightmare soundtrack + 23/9/2013 ‘Dreamies’ tracklist

Was a time when the programme/repeat function on a CD player seemed, if not cutting edge, then at least a few steps above that termed ‘past it’. No need to interrupt a relaxed soiree or extended burst of creativity, the sounds could be enjoyed as long as desired. However, when the function was accidentally employed, the result could be far from what might be described as a pleasurable experience, especially when the sounds were programmed on the way to bed with a fever ready to assert itself. Of course, most people wouldn’t play Swans colossal ‘Soundtracks For The Blind’ in such a situation – not exactly what the doctor would have ordered, or at least what most doctors would have ordered! Still, the half a dozen tracks would have finished after thirty minutes if it weren’t for the accidental pressing of ‘repeat’; instead the selected pieces (including, I recollect, ‘Her Mouth Is Filled With Honey’‘Minus Something’‘I Love You This Much’, and ‘YRP’) played for hours, ensuring a lengthy soundtrack for dystopian nightmare visions a fever-drenched brain was only too ready to provide….
Thankfully, the sounds aired on ‘Dreamies’, a show inspired by Bill Holt‘s wonderful 1974 set of aural collages, though containing its share of dark passages, provided the soundtrack for a less-troubling, though intriguing and, if tape experimentation, samples, Tesla reel-to-reels, Moogs etc are your cup of tea, enjoyable hour……
It was difficult to choose which tracks from ‘Dreamies’ should bookend the sonic excursion, but the broadcast began with:

1)BILL HOLT – PROGRAM TEN PART THREE /from ‘Dreamies 2006 Special Edition’/ Wilmington Studios 2005

11)BILL HOLT – PROGRAM ELEVEN PART THREE /from ‘Dreamies 2006 Special Edition’/ Wilmington Studios 2005

That second sample of Bill Holt‘s sole album, a labour of love crafted over a year in his home-studio and influenced by the Beatles‘ track which preceded it, brought what was hopefully a transporting hour of sounds to an end.
Thanks are due this time to Paolo Cantu, aka Makhno, and to Mirko Spino of Wallace Records – help much-appreciated!
Til next time, wish you all hours of delicious sonic delights
