13/1/2014 TKS Presents: ‘2013-RETRO’ tracklisting

Choosing an hour’s worth of music from a year’s supply, even though the year in question arguably wasn’t an epic one sonically, proved difficult. Even after discounting all bar a couple of worthy works due to their having previously been featured on The Kitchen Sink, and sticking only to albums available in some physical form; this latter means of exclusion meant no place for any sounds from, amongst others, Piotr Kurek‘s excellent ‘Elena’ album and the equally impressive  Sillage Intemporel collection of works by women in experimental music, ‘Elles’.
When time started to slip away, the decision was made to try to include works from as many countries as possible, hence the following selection, representing at least eight (more if you count the countries they were recorded in!):

1)MY BLOODY VALENTINE – ONLY TOMORROW /from ‘mbv’/ My Bloody Valentine 2013

In the parlance of Chicago footworks maestro RP Boo, there u’go boi(s and gurls!). Thanks this time are due to Satoshi Okamoto for his sub-tle work, and to Rhys Braddock and Stuart J Mills of Gerda:Blank – help, as ever, much-appreciated! And so we rush on into another year which I’m sure will be similarly rich in diverse sounds….Until next time, wishing you all many a sonic gem, S.

The Kitchen Sink broadcasts every Monday at 22.15 here in the Czech Republic, that’s 21.15 UK, 16.15 New York, and can be found at http://www.radior.cz       Any feedback on the programme will be very welcome!
