17/2/2014 ‘BristolSoundz’ tracklisting

Every now and then on The Kitchen Sink, the focus of the show has been on a country, state or city, but, with a population of less than 450.000, the largest metropolis in the wild (at least weather-wise recently) southwest of England is the smallest so far.
With a large African-Caribbean community, particularly centred in the suburb of St Paul’s, scene of an annual Carnival since 1967, it’s perhaps no surprise that Bristol has produced many artists  both dealing in and influenced by reggae and dub; the vibrant scene in the city has seen these influences taken in many directions, from dancefloor-friendly to darker, more reflective forms. Hopefully, the selection of sounds on the show gave at least a taste of the city dubbed the most musical in the UK in 2010!

Just a taste – no Massive Attack, no Glaxo Babies, no Acker Bilk! All of which means, there’s a good chance there’ll be another focus on the extremely productive music scene in Bristol sometime in the not-too-distant.
Until next time, wishing you all many a sonic delight, S.
