21/7/2014 ‘Back To The Sonic Garage’ + ‘Fires Beyond The Bothies’ tracklists

Tick, tick, tick, tick – time flies and before you know it  what was yesterday is heading toward ancient history. Exaggeration, yes, but this pair of tracklists are beyond overdue!

The second sonic voyage back on July 21st was to Scotland, originally planned to tie in with the month of guest readings by Scottish writers at this year’s Mesic Autorskeho Cteni at Divadlo Husa na Provazku here in Brno; due to technical problems at the radio studio delaying the broadcast, the festival of readings was three weeks in by the time the following tracks offered a brief introduction to the diverse musical delights emanating from the land of R L Stevenson, Alexander Trocchi, James Kelman and (appearing at the festival)  Liz Lochhead:

1)Mogwai – George Square Thatcher Death Party /from ‘Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will’/ Rock Action 2011
2)Altres – (Shadow Of A) Broken Mirror /from ‘Recent Recordings 2003-2006’/ Multi-Purpose Productions 2006
3)Izu – Get Ur Fleece On /from ‘Going Salamander’/ Highpoint Lowlife 2006

5)Josef K – Sorry For Laughing /from ‘The Only Fun In Town’/ Postcard Records 1981
6)Alisdair Roberts – As I Came In By Huntly Town /from ‘The Crook Of My Arm’/ Secretly Canadian 2001
7)The Sensational Alex Harvey band – Midnight Moses /from ‘Framed’/ Vertigo Records 1972, Universal Int 2002
8)Gerry Mitchell & Little Sparta – The Ragged Garden Of Your Eye /from ‘The Ragged Garden’/ Fire Records 2007
9)Fire Engines – Discord /from the collection ‘Hungry Beat’/ Acute Records 2007
10)Bert Jansch – Blackwaterside /from ‘Jack Orion’/ 1966, Transatlantic Records 2001
11)Cocteau Twins – Musette And Drums /from ‘Head Over Heels’/ 4AD Records 1983
12)Richard Youngs – Illumined Land /from ‘The Naive Shaman’/ Jagjaguwar Records 2006

The prolific genre-defying Glasgow-based musician Youngs brought the sonic sojourn in Scotland to a close. Thanks due once again to Kevin L. Guthrie of Dundee outfit Altres. And to anyone perusing this very late track listing!
Til next time – wishing you all many a aural delight, S.
